The Empty Train

 

On the Raritan Valley Line of NJ Transit, sometimes the off-peak trains are nearly empty. I'm not complaining, mind you.

The Night Station

 

The Plainfield Train Station at night. Obviously in much more pleasant weather, mind you.

Over the Fanwood Train Station

 

Some years back I had to regularly go for blood testing in neighboring Fanwood, NJ. I had had a DVT after knee surgery and was on an anti-coagulant. While kind of cool, their foot bridge over the tracks certainly wasn't disability accessible. But I did it anyway.

The Plainfield Train Station Groundhog Says ...

... he wants SPRING, the sooner the better! After all, no one gives him bread when he's hibernating.

Retro NJ Transit

Perhaps not retro for some of the rail lines, but my NJ Transit line (Raritan Valley) has had double-decker trains for a number of years now.

Sunrise at the Station

Just before sunrise approaching the Plainfield Train Station. Oh, not this morning. I don't think the sunrise was much more than a lightening of the skies today. Although the amount of snow we got was nothing like what was forecast, it snowed well into the afternoon.

The World Passes By

I edited this shot so only the greenery of the passing world remains in color. I feel the photo screams futility. On a cold grey winter day with rain-sogged snow, it does seem pretty futile. Unless you're inside baking cookies, that is.

I'm Not Missing This At All!

After a long stint of unseasonably warm temperatures, we're now standing at a very seasonable (for this area) 36F. My gosh, you'd think the world was coming to an end with some folks complaining about the cold! We've been so lucky so far this December! Well, with the exception of all of the cloudy days and rain.

But, after a horribly cold and icy December the past few years, I'll take this weather any day! We've had no measurable snow as yet ... which means no icy sidewalks! I really don't mind the cold so much. I know how to layer up. It's the ice and snow which get to me as a pedestrian about town.

Just a Commute?

 

For me, there's always inherent mysteries about train stations. Sure, most of the time in my life, it's just a commute. But sometimes I'm off for an adventure. At times the 'just a commute' turns into an adventure, or perhaps just a slice of life in the conversations with (or eavesdropping on) strangers on the train. If the stations themselves could talk, oh what tales they could tell! Love stories, excited children and maybe a killing or two. Maybe they could tell the dreams some of us once dreamt.

Another Umbrella Day Ahead

 

More rain expected today here. With temperatures flirting with the 60 degree mark at the end of December, it's all very odd. I'm sure, once I return to work, the snow and cold will arrive. It's just waiting for me. I know it is.

Double Decker

 

NJ Transit double-decker trains on the Raritan Valley Line rock. I don't miss the old brown seats at all.

I Continue to See Dead People

 

I'm still seeing dead people. They still haven't learned.

The Dark Penn

 

Newark Penn can be a scary place. Especially when I mess with the photo editor. Or, if there are rats. There are rats at night there. I've seen them. They just don't cooperate with my camera.

Wrong Track

 

So often in my life I have felt like I've been waiting for my ship to come in on the wrong track.
